PaddleHeads Bats Silenced In 8-1 Defeat Wednesday
Costello Shuts Down PaddleHeads Attack in 8-1 Loss
Boise, ID- The Missoula PaddleHeads squared off with the Boise Hawks on Wednesday night on a blustery evening at Memorial Stadium. Missoula's attack screamed out of the gate in game 2 with an 11-run rally highlighting early inning success on Tuesday. Wednesday night would have a completely different feel as Missoula's offense would be held down for much of the night thanks to a fabulous outing from Boise's starter Chase Costello. This outing would prove to set the tone for Boise who would do enough offensively on the other side to support the effort from the starter.
Costello would not allow a single earned run in his start keeping the PaddleHeads offense in check throughout. Missoula's offense would be held to 6 hits total on the night, managing to only scratch a run across in the 4th inning. Boise's offense on the other side would get all the offense they needed in the 4th, and 5th innings scoring 5 runs in those 2 frames combined. This would be more than enough to back up the effort of Costello as Boise would cruise to an 8-1 win.
The former LSU Tiger would keep Missoula at bay over 7 ⅓ innings allowing only 3 hits in those frames while striking out 5. Costello would also tighten things up when runners did reach base inducing 3 double plays in the game. Abraham Sequera would provide a spark offensively in the middle innings to make sure the effort from Costello would stand up.
RBI Doubles from Sequera in consecutive at bats in the 4th, and 5th innings highlighted 2 rallies for the Hawks that saw 5 runs come in to score. Sequera would see 1 run score in his at bat in the 4th with 2 scoring in the 5th as Boise would extend their advantage to 6-1. This 2 inning stretch would prove to be plenty down the stretch as Missoula's attack would never kick into gear. Sequera finished the night 2-for-5 with 3 RBIs.
Haloa Duidoit rounded out the scoring from Boise in the 6th with a double of his own to bring the score to 8-1. The win for Boise over Missoula was their first this season against the PaddleHeads in 12 games. Duidoit would wrap up the night 2-for-5 at the plate.
It would not be a night to remember collectively for the PaddleHeads offense, but Kamron Willman would turn in a solid night at the plate in a losing effort. The Bakersfield native would reach base 4 times in the victory to finish 3-for-3 on the night. Missoula's offense was unable to provide much else on this night however as no other player would manage to tally more than 1 hit on the evening.
The PaddleHeads (67-25) will look to get back to their winning ways in game 4 of the series on Thursday night opposite the Hawks (29-64). Action from Memorial Stadium is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. Catch all the action on ESPN Missoula 102.9 F.M
