PaddleHeads Adam Fogel Enters 9-Game Homestand 1 Home run Away from Record
The star Outfielder has 31 Home runs, 1 shy of former PaddleHead Jayson Newman’s record of 32
The Missoula PaddleHeads' slugger Adam Fogel is doing something no one has done in over 60 years of Pioneer League baseball. Fogel, with his homerun on Sunday, is now just one homerun shy of former PaddleHead Jayson Newman's all time Pioneer League record of 32 homeruns in a season. Fogel hit 31 in Missoula's first 72 games. An amazing pace no one has ever come close to matching in the league. Newman's record happened over a 96-game season, although, Newman broke the league record in 2022 with homerun number 27 in game 65 that season. Fogel should not only break Newman's record, but do it in record time with much more baseball ahead to build it even further. From 1963 to 2020 the Pioneer League was a 76-game schedule. From 2021, the Pioneer League is now a 96-game schedule. Fogel hit homerun #27 in game 64, besting Newman by one game. However, Fogel has homered four times in his last 8 games to get to within one of Newman's season totals from 2022. The PaddleHeads still have 24 games remaining for Fogel to catch and pass for the record. Ironically, Newman and Fogel are close friends away from the field, growing up in southern California together.
Fogel has his sights set on some other accomplishments as well. He is contending for the Pioneer League's triple crown in hitting which occurs when a player leads the league in batting average, homeruns, and RBIs. He currently is 2nd in Batting Average behind teammate Mike Rosario at .404 to .415. However, he is 1st in homeruns over Rocky Mountain's Steven Rivas with 31 to Rivas' 24 and he is 1st in RBIs over Rivas 97-95.
The PaddleHeads open a 9-game homestand tomorrow, Tuesday Night August 13th, at Ogren Park Allegiance Field versus the Great Falls Voyagers. The Voyagers are in town for 6 games Tuesday through Sunday. Tuesday, August 13th is Non-Profit Tuesday. Wednesday, August 14th is Woof Wednesday sponsored by Scheels and Missoula Broadcasting, and Thursday, August 11th is Thirsty Thursday sponsored by Parkside Credit Union and Townsquare Media.
